Building on Faith
In 2009, several churches with a special dedication to the work of Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County came together to form a special initiative called "Building On Faith" to mobilize area congregations to deliver affordable housing to those in need.
What We're Doing
This summer Habitat has new opportunities for churches to get involved. We are building two new handicap accessible homes in Monroe. The building starts on May 25th and ends September 11th. Volunteers will work on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. As a Building on Faith church you commit to provide prayer support, volunteers and funding for the homes. We can't build these homes without you! Habitat is willing to work with you and your church to achieve these goals.
Meet the Families
The Jennings Family
Long time residents of Monroe County Ken is a retired construction worker and Debora is no longer able to work because of her disability. Debora has Multiple Sclerosis which has caused her to become a quadriplegic. The Jennings currently live in a home that is not handicap accessible. As the couple gets older their housing situation has become increasingly unsafe for them. We are excited to build this new handicap accessible home so they have a safe environment to live in.
The McBee Family
Christian McBee is a single mother with 3 daughters. Her oldest twin daughters, Abigail and Brittney both have Cerebral Palsy and one is wheelchair bound. The youngest daughter, Breanna, does not have any disabilities. The McBee's currently live in a two story apartment and Christian has to carry her daughters up and down the stairs multiple times a day. As the girls get older their housing situation is no longer sustainable. We are exciting to build them a handicap accessible home for them to grow in!

Reasons for Participating
Habitat's Mission and Goals are based off the teachings of Christ. In an effort to eliminate homelessness and sub-standard housing, Habitat partners with local families in need to provide them with an affordable home. This is an opportunity for your church to experience outreach in the community, serve as a body, and follow biblical principles.
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40
A one-of-a-kind expericence that allows you to phusically see and remember the time and money that was put into these homes by your churches act of service. A partnership that promotes both family and community. A sacrifice that is taken seriously, handled appropriately, and blessed abundantly.
