Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County Tithes A House for a House
Since our beginning, Habitat has chosen to tithe 10% on all unrestricted donations (unrestricted means that the donor has not specified how the funds are to be spent) to Paraguay. For every house we built in Monroe, another one is built in Paraguay by money we raise here.
We are one of only seven affiliates out of 83 in Michigan who accomplish this. Each home in Paraguay costs $3,500US with the families paying about $21US per month. $25, 468 was tithed by Habitat of Monroe County in 2006. Learn more about Habitat in Paraguay.
Habitat Paraguay was founded in 1998 and broke ground on its first house in Asuncion the following year. During the first five years, 400 houses have been built throughout the country and two more affiliates were added.
Currently, Habitat Paraguay is in the process of venturing into the northern department of Conception where we should have our fourth affiliate in the near future. The national office is located in the capital of Asuncion.
Habitat of Paraguay is changing lives and communities throughout the country by creating simple, decent and affordable homes. Unfortunately, 36% of Paraguay's population lives in substandard housing with inadequate or unsafe weather protection, and with poor sanitation facilities.
Habitat Paraguay provides families in need with no-interest loans, architectural designs, construction oversight, and volunteer labor to assist in building their new home.
