Tithe
The word “tithe” comes from the tradition in which people of certain faiths would donate 10% of their income to their religious institution.
Through Habitat International’s Tithe program, Habitat affiliates are encouraged to donate 10% of their unrestricted donations to support house-building work in other nations. This is all part of Habitat’s effort to eliminate poverty housing globally.
Tithing provides much needed funds for international building, and it also gives affiliates the opportunity to demonstrate the sprint of Christian partnership.
Tithing always brings up the questions “Don’t we need the money right here?” The answer is the value of our tithe increases about tenfold when it is sent to certain other countries.
Over 20 years Habitat Monroe has tithed $500k to Paraguay, and those funds have built 65 homes for families in need of adequate housing in Paraguay.
