Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County will continue construction of two mores homes this summer after a short delay.

Volunteers for the local chapter will begin building the homes Saturday as part of a Weekend Build. Each home, one on Palmwood St. and another on Mulhollen Dr., will be built on weekends over a six-week period.

Construction was delayed for about a month due to design changes to the homes. L.C. and Shawna Rouser and their five children will live in the Palmwood St. home, while Jill Caruso and her two children will live in the Mulhollen Dr. home.

The house on Palmwood St. will include four bedrooms and a basement - a first for the local chapter. The Mulhollen Dr. home in Monroe Township is being designed to be completely handicapped accessible. It is a three-bedroom home.

The two houses will mark the fifth and sixth homes to be built by Habitat this year. Next year, Habitat expects to build at least six more houses.

According to Habitat Director Debora Wykes, the two homes are scheduled to be completed Oct. 21.

A dedication will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at each home, beginning at Mulhollen Dr.

She added that while most of the construction will be completed on Saturdays and Sundays, some work will be done throughout the week.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that builds affordable homes for low-income families.

Volunteers still are needed for the weekend build to help with the construction and other duties.
